Location: West Side
Enrollment: 8 openings
This class is for writers of all levels who want to get feedback on their stories or essays, try out new exercises with guidance, and practice reading as writers. Whether you’re just starting to write, want to return to writing, or have a regular writing practice, We’ll help you find new ways to stoke your creative energy, hone your skills, and take your work to the next level.
We’ll use writing prompts and exercises designed to help you find your subject and make the written experience new and compelling to a reader. We’ll read published work as writers: looking at characterization, point of view, plot and structure, dialogue, and description and detail. We’ll discuss why some strategies work and some don’t, how to avoid pitfalls and hone our strengths. Expect to generate new material in class and in assignments.
Previous workshop experience is useful but in no way required. Please expect to read at least 30 pages of material per week, and to prepare (with guidance!) a page of written feedback for each two-hour class session. If you aren’t sure if this class is for you, send us a note and we’re happy to tell you more.
